Imposter Word
Imposter Word gives everyone the same secret word except one faker. Give clues, spot the imposter, and vote them out in this free browser party game.

About This Game
Imposter Word is a hidden-role word deduction game you can play online with friends in seconds — no app, no account, no console. At the start of each match every player is handed the same secret crew word, except for one imposter (two once you hit eight or more players) who receives a closely related decoy word instead. The twist: nobody is told whether they are crew or imposter. You only see your own word, so the imposter has to figure out they are the odd one out from how everyone else is behaving — while the crew has to figure out who does not quite fit.
Each round runs on a tight loop. Everyone submits a single one-word clue that hints at their secret word without actually containing it, all clues are revealed at once, and then a 60-second discussion opens up where you argue over whose clue felt a little too vague, a little too generic, or a little off. Then comes a simultaneous vote: the player with the most votes is ejected and their true role is revealed to the whole table, though a tie or an all-skip vote ejects nobody and the round simply moves on. The crew wins when every imposter has been voted out; the imposters win if they survive down to the final few players. It is fast, tense, and full of second-guessing — a real-time social deduction game where a single well-chosen word can save you or sink you.
Getting a game going is the easy part. The host opens onlineparty.games/play/imposter-word on any phone, and a 4-letter room code plus a QR code appear on screen. Friends in the room scan the QR or type the code, pick a nickname, and they are in — everything runs in the phone browser with nothing to download and no login. Because every player sees a full private view of their own word and the shared clues, this is a phone-only game: you do not need a TV, a console, or a separate controller. Whether your group is squeezed onto one couch or scattered across a video call, Imposter Word is a free party game that spins up in under ten seconds and delivers the same "wait, was it YOU?" payoff every round.
Imposter Word is one of our own social deduction games you can play free right here — open a room, share the QR code, and start voting out the faker with no download or sign-up.

Get your secret word
The game deals everyone the same crew word — except the imposter, who gets a related decoy. You only ever see your own word, and nobody is told their role.
Clue, discuss, and vote
Each round you submit a one-word clue that hints at your word without containing it. Clues are revealed together, you get 60 seconds to debate, then everyone votes to eject a suspect whose role is revealed. Crew wins by ejecting every imposter.
Tips & Strategy
- As crew, keep your clue specific enough to prove you know the word, but not so obvious that the imposter can guess it from you.
- If you suspect you might be the imposter, echo the vibe of the clues already given and play it cool — vague-but-plausible beats silence.
- Watch for clues that could fit either word in a pair. A player hedging their bets is often the faker trying to stay safe.
- Use the full 60-second discussion to compare clues out loud — the imposter usually cracks under direct questions about why they chose their word.
Pros & Cons
Pros

- Simple one-word clues make it easy for anyone to learn in a single round
- Completely free with 150+ family-friendly word pairs for high replayability
Cons
- Needs at least 4 players to work, and shines most with 6 or more
