About This Game
Wavelength is a team-based guessing game built around spectrums and subjective opinions. A hidden target sits somewhere on a spectrum between two extremes (like "Hot — Cold" or "Good Movie — Bad Movie"), and one player gives a single-word clue to guide their team toward the target's position. The beauty of Wavelength is that it generates genuine debate and reveals how differently people think about the same concepts.
The online version faithfully recreates the physical game experience. One team's clue-giver sees where the target sits on the spectrum and must give a clue that communicates that position. For example, if the spectrum is "Underrated — Overrated" and the target is slightly toward "Overrated," a clue like "The Beatles" might work — but your team might disagree about how overrated The Beatles actually are. That disagreement is where the magic happens.
Wavelength works phenomenally as an icebreaker and conversation starter because every round surfaces interesting opinions and perspectives. It is less about being "right" and more about understanding how your teammates think. The game supports large groups by splitting into teams, and rounds are quick enough to fit into any gathering format.
How to Play
Split into teams
Divide players into two teams. The online version handles team assignment automatically.
View the spectrum
A spectrum appears with two opposing concepts at each end (e.g., "Hot — Cold").
Clue-giver sees the target
The active team's clue-giver sees where the hidden target sits on the spectrum and gives a one-word clue.
Team discusses and guesses
The team debates where on the spectrum the clue points to, then locks in their guess.
Score based on accuracy
Points are awarded based on how close the team's guess is to the hidden target. First team to the point goal wins.
Tips & Strategy
- Choose clues that your specific teammates will interpret the way you intend — not universally "correct" answers.
- When guessing, consider who is giving the clue. Their perspective matters more than objective truth.
- Avoid clues that sit at the extreme ends unless the target is actually at an extreme.
- The opposing team can earn a bonus point by guessing which side of center the target is on.
