Stratego Online
Stratego Online brings the classic hidden-information war game to your browser. Deploy your army, conceal your flag, and outmaneuver your opponent.

About This Game
Stratego is a two-player strategy game of hidden information and tactical deduction. Each player arranges 40 pieces on their half of the board, with ranks hidden from the opponent. When pieces clash, the higher-ranked piece captures the lower one — but you never know what you're attacking until the battle resolves. The goal is to capture your opponent's flag while protecting your own.
The game creates a constant tension between aggression and caution. Send scouts to probe enemy lines, but risk revealing your own formation. Deploy your bombs to protect your flag, but a well-placed miner can disarm them. Use your Marshal (the strongest piece) boldly, but one encounter with the Spy and it's gone. Every move is a calculation of risk, information, and bluffing.
The online version adds matchmaking, rankings, and timed turns to the classic formula. Games play faster than the physical version since the app handles all the rank-comparison rules automatically. Multiple variants are available, including quick-play modes with fewer pieces for faster games. If you enjoy chess but wish it had hidden information and bluffing, Stratego is your game.
How to Play
Deploy your army
Arrange your 40 pieces on your half of the board. Hide your flag behind bombs, position scouts at the front, and protect key pieces.
Move pieces
On your turn, move one piece to an adjacent square (most pieces move one square; scouts can move in straight lines).
Attack to reveal
Move onto an opponent's piece to attack. Both pieces are revealed; the higher rank captures the lower. Equal ranks destroy both.
Capture the flag
Find and capture your opponent's hidden flag to win. Use scouts and probing attacks to narrow down its location.
Tips & Strategy
- Don't put your flag in the obvious corner position — experienced players check corners first.
- Use scouts aggressively in the early game to gather information about your opponent's deployment.
- Keep your Spy near your opponent's suspected Marshal. The Spy is the only piece that can defeat the Marshal.
- Watch which pieces your opponent avoids attacking with — passive pieces are often high-value targets.
- Bombs can't move, so note any pieces that never change position.
