About This Game

Dominion is the game that invented the deck-building genre, and Dominion Online is the officially licensed digital adaptation. Each game begins with every player holding the same basic deck of cards. On your turn, you play action cards for effects and spend treasure cards to buy better cards from a shared supply. Your purchased cards go into your deck, gradually transforming it from a weak starter into a powerful engine.

The brilliance of Dominion lies in its setup variability. Each game uses 10 different Kingdom cards from a pool of hundreds, meaning no two games use the same card combinations. This forces you to evaluate new strategies every game rather than memorizing a single optimal path. Should you go heavy on engine-building actions? Rush for provinces? Play an attack-heavy disruption strategy? The answer changes every time.

Dominion Online includes the base game for free and offers paid subscriptions for access to the many expansion sets (Prosperity, Seaside, Intrigue, and more). The interface is functional if not flashy, and the matchmaking system pairs you with similarly rated opponents. It's the gold standard for online deck-building, backed by a community of players who have been refining strategies for over a decade.

How to Play

  1. Start with a basic deck

Every player begins with 7 Copper cards and 3 Estate cards. This is your starting deck.

  2. Action phase

Play one action card from your hand. Actions can give you more cards, more actions, more buys, or special effects.

  3. Buy phase

Spend your treasure cards to buy one card from the supply. The card goes into your discard pile and eventually your deck.

  4. Clean up

Discard everything and draw 5 new cards. When your deck runs out, shuffle your discard pile to form a new deck.

  5. Win with victory points

The game ends when the Province pile or three supply piles are empty. Most victory points wins.
