Spades Online
Team up and bid on tricks in the classic partnership card game. Spades Online lets you play with friends or AI in this strategic trump card game.

About This Game
Spades is the definitive partnership trick-taking game, and the online versions make it easy to play without rounding up three friends and a physical deck. Two teams of two sit across from each other, and each round begins with players bidding how many tricks they think they can win. Hit your team's combined bid and you score; fall short and you lose points. Spades are always trump, adding a layer of power dynamics to every hand.
What makes Spades special among trick-taking games is the bidding and partnership element. You and your partner must communicate through your bids and card play, reading each other's signals without directly discussing strategy. Over-bidding is punishing, but so is under-bidding (called "bags"), which penalizes you if accumulated. This creates a sweet spot of calculated risk that rewards experienced partnerships.
Online Spades platforms typically offer both casual play with AI partners and multiplayer rooms where you can team up with a friend. The game translates well to digital because the rules are clear, scoring is automatic, and the real depth comes from reading the table. For card game enthusiasts who appreciate strategic depth and teamwork, Spades online offers a reliably engaging experience.
How to Play
Join a table
Visit a Spades website and join a 4-player table. You will be paired with a partner sitting across from you.
Bid on tricks
Look at your hand and bid how many tricks you think you can win this round (1-13). Your team's bids are combined.
Play tricks
Players play one card per trick, following the lead suit. Spades are trump and beat any other suit.
Score based on your bid
Meet your team bid to earn 10 points per trick bid. Fall short and you lose 10 points per trick bid. Extra tricks ("bags") accumulate penalties.
Tips & Strategy
- Count your certain winners (aces, high spades) for your base bid, then add one or two for probable winners.
- Do not overbid — failing your bid is far worse than winning an extra trick or two.
- Watch your bag count — every 10 accumulated bags costs 100 penalty points.
- Lead with your short suits to eventually be able to trump with spades.
