About This Game
Warp Theater turns the broken-telephone idea into an asynchronous writing game. The host writes an opening line, chooses how many retellings the show should have, and sends a casting link to friends. Each new actor sees only the immediately previous retelling, not the original or the rest of the chain, so small changes accumulate into a completely different ending.
Shows can use two to six retelling seats, with the host's opening line sitting at the start of the chain. The prompt categories cover everyday fails, epic scenes, movie-line remixes, and office tales. A concrete, slightly absurd opener works best because it gives each person enough detail to preserve, misunderstand, or accidentally replace.
When the cast is ready, premiere night reveals every act in sequence. A host does not have to wait for a full friend group: AI actors can fill any empty seats and finish the show in about two minutes. The casting link remains open for roughly a day, which makes Warp Theater a useful party game for friends who cannot all join at the same time.
How to Play
Write the opening line
Start a show with a concrete, slightly strange sentence, then enter a stage name and choose two to six retellings.
Send the casting link
Share the private show link. Each friend who joins is shown only the most recent version of the line.
Retell what you received
Write the line again from memory or interpretation, without seeing the original chain.
Run the premiere
When the seats are filled, or when the host asks AI actors to fill the gaps, reveal the complete warp chain act by act.
Tips & Strategy
- Start with a person, a place, and one odd detail. That gives later players several things they can accidentally mutate.
- Retell the meaning in your own words instead of copying mechanically. Natural paraphrasing creates the funniest drift.
- Use a category prompt when nobody has an opening line ready.
- If the group is short on time, let AI actors fill the empty seats and run the premiere immediately.
